As we head into the warmer months of 2023, Dancing Dragonfly Winery has added two new wines to our extensive, award-winning portfolio. Our Winemaker has created these wines with inspiration from traditional French and Italian wines. We are so excited to introduce you to Super Danza and Pineau des Dragonflies!
Super Danza was inspired by the Super Tuscan style of wine from Italy. Earthy notes of clay and peat, with dark berries on the nose. Flavors of plum, pomegranate, and orange peel, finishing with full and lingering tannins. Super Danza is a dry red wine, made primarily with Merlot grapes.
“Super Tuscan wines became popular with Italian producers in the 80’s in an attempt to get the national laws changed in Italy regarding the use of non-indigenous grape varieties. Traditionally, Cabernet, Merlot, and other French varieties were not permitted in class-designated Italian wines.
In the early 2000’s, the laws were changed and Super Tuscan wines now enjoy respect around the world.
Our Super Danza (“danza” is Italian for dance) is a blend of classic varieties found around the world – Merlot is the main grape, but smaller components of Sangiovese, Cabernet, and Petite Syrah are also used in the blend.
Aged in French oak and finished dry. Super Danza represents our most tannic dry red wine.”*
Pineau des Dragonflies is our first apéritif here at DDW. This fortified white wine is inspired by the French Pineau des Charentes. We get lemon zest and allspice on the nose. Honey, brulé sugar, and lemon drop candies on the palate. Pineau des Dragonflies is made primarily from La Crescent grapes.
“This wine is modeled after a Pineau des Charentes wine, first made in Charentes, France in the Cognac region of western France.
It is a vin de liqueur or fortified wine, served as an apéritif or dessert wine.
Ours is made from estate grown La Crescent grape juice, lightly fermented from 23% natural grape sugar down to 18%, then fortified with neutral grape spirts, and aged on French oak. The result is a wine that has 16% residual grape sugar, and 18% alcohol.
Serve slightly chilled, before a meal, or after with dessert.”*
Our Inner Circle Wine Club members recently had the opportunity to try these wonderful wines at our Club Exclusive Pre-Release Party. These valued members had praises to share about these outstanding wines.
►“Good, relaxing, bold flavored red wine. Fruity taste. Perfect for relaxing in the evening with a glass or two. I like it!”’
►“Chef’s kiss!”
►“For someone who doesn’t usually like red, I enjoy this one. I enjoy the Nouveau and this is a close second for me. Good table wine or red meat dinner wine. Looking forward to bringing home a case.”
►“Very tasty!”
These wines will be available by the glass and by the bottle in our Tasting Room by mid-May. If you are unable to make it to the Tasting Room to enjoy these amazing new wines, please visit our online store. We are eager to share our enthusiasm for these limited selections. Enjoy!
