Award Update -- January 2023

The results of the 2023 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition are in, and we are thrilled to report that seven of our wines have received impressive accolades! The San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition invited over sixty judges, representing various North American wine regions, evaluating 5,500 wines from nearly 1,000 wineries for the 2023 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition this week.

Ballet, Christine’s Foxtrot and, Hula were awarded Double Gold;

Polka and Sashay were awarded Gold; and

Calypso and Marquessa were awarded Silver.

Being awarded Double Gold is especially impressive, as it requires a unanimous decision by the judges that it is deserving of a gold medal. We are delighted that Ballet, Christine’s Foxtrot, and Hula made such a wonderful impression on the judges at the San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition.

In 2019, Ballet was awarded White Wine of the Year, Double Gold, and Best of Class at the Indy International Wine Competition, as well as an impressive Double Gold (94 points) at the San Francisco International Wine Competition. Ballet is one of our most awarded white wine, and is a favorite of many of our staff and customers.

Christine’s Foxtrot and Hula are also well awarded, and unique in their own standings. Christine’s Foxtrot is a LaCressa Reserve Selection (part of the Marquessa Consortium), and our first wine to bear Christine’s name.

Hula is our true ice wine. Made from Frontenac Blanc gapes harvested and pressed in the heart of winter, and is an expression of our winemaker’s dedication to fine cold climate wines. Since 2018, Hula has been awarded five Double Gold medals and two Best of Class awards.

Another point to highlight is that Polka was awarded in the Riesling category. This category is famously comprised of exceptional California Rieslings. To be awarded Gold in this category is an impressive feat that we are quite proud of here at Dancing Dragonfly Winery. All of our wines submitted, with the exception of Polka, are made of 75% or greater cold climate and/or estate grown grapes.

We are proud of all our entries in this competition and we hope that you join us in applauding our many award-winning wines. To see more of our awards, visit our website here.
